Out of Water was performed at 8am on Holkham Beach, Norfolk from 25^th to 27^th August as part of the London 2012 Festival. The artists worked with singers and swimmers from the local area to make the performance.

Exchange     An Interactive Installation

Two dial telephones suspended a short distance apart between two tree’s and joined together across the middle by intertwined chords and receivers. Participants invited to write and leave a message; something that has been left unsaid, a call not made, a phone unanswered. Messages left exposed for others to read or concealed in an envelope all hanging from the telephone line. Messages left in exchange for a piece of sea glass from previous work Standstill; a symbol/representation of a shift or change.

Richard DeDomenici has created three short films as part of his cryptic triptych of works Reminiscences of a Backward Future.

Bomb Predisposal Unit presents some of the documentation from Richard’s custom-made hyper-vigilante robot, which takes to the streets to ask people [politely] “Excuse me, what’s in your bag?” whereas BASP introduces Richard’s recent scientific experimentation in genetically combining the best qualities of a bee and wasp to create a new sub-species to be released over the Olympic Park. Finally, in a bid to stimulate support for a new train station in the Essex Thames Gateway, Richard’s film How To Disembark A Speeding Train showcases a not-so-successful alternative transport-exit-strategy.

So, in the knowledge that Standstill is done for now, I shall be taking it down over the next couple of weeks.

While people were doing standstill, when they were in the hut, I was down on the beach bound up in my continuous beach combing, looking looking…I experienced seeing the whole landscape change over several hours, the sea retreating far in to the distance revealing mud flats and water gullies shining silver in the afternoon light – or the tide drawing up close, relentlessly reclaiming the mud, the sand, the beaches, lapping hungrily at the sea steps wall. And somehow in my search for particular things I always found what I needed or thought I needed; These were my ‘moments’, my connection with it all.

So now a line is drawn in the sand. The marking of a moment, a finishing point.

I am still waiting to hear if I shall be doing Standstill one last time before taking it down. I went to Brightlingsea on Sun and the sea really was calm and almost still like a pond, beautiful. I visited the hut yesterday, and wonder now, when I shall be going back…
